Grants Management Unit

Home  /  Grants Management Unit

The grants management unit is the cornerstone of the RSC and works with the other 7 operating units within the RCS. The unit supports KUHeS faculty, students, affiliates, and other collaborators with pre-award and post-award grant management services, including finance and administrative support. The unit will assist with identifying funding resources, developing and submitting proposals, administering awards from inception to project closeout, and ensuring compliance with institutional and sponsor guidelines and policies.

  • Pre-award

This is the proposal development phase where the PI develops and writes the science. The grants management unit will assist with budget preparations, writing budget justifications, completing budget forms, reviewing the grant application for administrative compliance, obtaining necessary institutional approvals and signatures, preparing additional administrative documents required to go with the application, and finally submitting the grant application electronically.

  • Post-award

After an applicant is awarded a grant, signs a contract agreement with the funder, and becomes a grantee, the unit will assist with overseeing the grant efficiently. The unit will ensure that the grantee is complying with all the terms and conditions associated with the grant. This includes managing advance payments, making payments, and accounting for allowable costs. Other key activities include fulfilling reporting requirements, requesting changes to the award if necessary, documenting expenditure, submitting annual progress reports (for multiyear awards), obtaining approval from ethics organizations for a continuation of program/studies, adhering to procurement standards, documenting efforts, conducting audits, and submitting final reports in a timely manner. The unit will also ensure that the grantee follows the stipulated termination closeout procedures as outlined by the sponsor.
