The risk management unit serves as the legal and risk management office within RSC, providing pre-award and post-award support to Principal investigators, researchers, and KUHeS as needed. The unit also handles the negotiation of contracts and assessments of risks, specifically in relation to the grants management system. The unit provides various types of support, including but not limited to:
- Reviewing, negotiating, and agreeing to the best possible funding terms for the University that align with the goals of the project and encourage successful collaboration between partners.
- Assessing risks in key areas, such as intellectual property, publication rights, confidentiality agreements, limitations liability, and financial and reputational risks for the University.
- Working with the Principal Investigators (PIs) to understand their research projects and obligations, ensuring that the negotiation process is focused on meeting the collaboration needs between the University and partners.
- Collaborating with departments, sponsors, and the University as a whole to ensure that the negotiation process is contextualized appropriately, as needed.
- Providing guidance and support to the Contracts Administrators at important stages in the negotiation process.
- Performing standard checks on contracts, such as funding amounts, payment terms, contact information, and performance dates
